This adorable note was inside the homemade card KK made us at school this year. I love it!

Hunting down a Christmas tree

Tooth number 3 scheduled for delivery

I came home from work to an excited boy, shaking his ziploc bag of tooth fairy fodder. He had lost it shortly after arriving at his after school program.

There is another loose one down there on the bottom so I think it is just a matter of time before another one falls out.

One man's trash

To some it would just be a napkin stained with ink. But, for me, the quickly scribbled words casually handed to me by my daughter on her 8 year old birthday are a priceless treasure.

My beautiful girl

The title to this blog entry makes no sense - unless you live in our house. We have had a long tradition of reading stories at bedtime and then I would lay quietly with them for a few minutes as they drifted off to sleep. That quiet time got the nickname "take a rest." Matthew has always and still loves his "take a rest"; we lay quietly and I rub his back and he is close to sleep as I creep out of his room. Katharine, on the other hand, spent most of her "take a rest" time talking. So, slowly, "take a rest" evolved into "talk a rest." Katharine loves this and the minute I close the book we are currently reading, she chirps, "what are we going to talk about." Of late, this time has taken yet another turn where Katharine is exploring her love of math and that time has become called "math a rest." Now we spend a few minutes every night where I give her a math problem verbally (example: 417 + 123) and she will solve the problem in her head and give me the answer. And, bless her, that girl is right 99% of the time. So proud!

Soccer Season

This is Matthews soccer team this fall -- Matthew's second season. They had a great season and tons of fun.

Praying for a win!

Happy Halloween (belated)

And then they say something like this....

Doing the whole working, mothering, wife-ing thing can wear a gal out so, by the time I get the kiddos to bed I am pretty much done for the day. But, the other night I had this experience...

I had put the kids to bed and was settling in to bed myself when hear comes Katharine just creeping, creeping into my bedroom. She doesn't look at me but just keeps right on creeping by me into the master bathroom. In the bathroom she quietly helps herself to a little drink of water. The she comes creeping back out again, by my bed and almost out the door. But, before she leaves she slowly turns backs to me and waves her hands in front of her face and says, "this never happened" -- then, without another word, she turned and continued her creeping back to her own bedroom. I'm telling ya' this kids never cease to entertain me.

Calling planet Mars

So, we're driving home from a family outing of bowling and we have the conversation below as we drive over the "cross-town" and see the flashing blue lights of a police car in the distance:

Paul: What's going on over there?
Me: I don't know, I can't see... the police must have pulled somebody.
Katharine: Oh, the police. I thought it was an alien abduction.

File this one under kids says the darnedest things!

I've been a really bad blogger of late. I've also been a really busy mom, worker, wife, daughter, etc. (you get the picture). It got to the point where I didn't know how to get back into this blog or if I should bother. But, I didn't want to give it up; it's been special to me and, while I don't need the internet for that, I think there may be one or two others out there who checked in occasionally. At any rate, I'm back and I'm just starting again -- anew. I'm not going to worry about where I left off or how to create a smooth transition from the previous posts to this one, I'm just starting.

I've started a study at my Church called 1,000 gifts by Ann Voskamp and, in a nutshell, it's about the power of positive thinking. That is where I came across the word Eucharisteo -- Greek for thanksgiving. The word struck me and I found the sound of it beautiful. I say it to myself several times a day...Eucharisteo, Eucharisteo. I've also taken Voskamp's Joy Dare to keep a journal of 1,000 gifts. I"m up to 25 or so so we'll see how that goes.

This blog would list among one of my 1,000 gifts. I often come back and look at old posts and relive old memories. So, to that end, I'm pledging to pick it back up again and try to share some of my 1,000 gifts as they're happening. To give thanks -- Eucharisteo.

Happy 11 years

Yesterday marked the day when, 11 years ago, we said "I do." My, my how time flies.

We celebrated with an evening out on the town -- dinner out at a new place called The Grocery and then a ride around town on a bike taxi.

Kids and baby chicks

What could be cuter?

This is an annual project in the 4k/kindergarten classes at ecdc. It is a great opportunity for the kids to learn about the life cycle and nurture something. On a similar note, tadpoles just arrived today.

Yesterday morning during the hectic school/work prep routine, Matt appeared in our bathroom. "One of my bottom teeth is sticking out funny, Mom." My immediate reaction is that it's from all the thumb sucking, but then it dawns on me that this can't be that far off from when KK started losing hers. I feel around in there and sure enough there's a wiggly little tooth down there. When I confirm it, his faces gleams with pride. Not thirty minutes later I'm dropping him off at school he juts out his lower jaw and asks me if the tooth is still in there. It was.

Today we discovered that not only is there one loose tooth, there are two! The two bottom center are on their way out.

Matt's 1st soccer practice

Matt has joined the world of extracurriculars - 5 year old soccer team. They named themselves the Transformers.

Cold morning at the zoo

We're on a brief overnight trip to Columbia and made a quick outing to the zoo. The weather was cold and crisp but sunny. We had fun and were excited to have cousin Morgan with us.

Super Hooper

We have discovered Katharine's natural talent - hula hooping! This girl hula hoops like nobodies business. Here is a brief listing of her hula hooping gifts:
* jumping up and down while hula hooping
* moving to the left and right
* multiple hula hoops at the same time
* walking up to 50 yards
